3,000 years before biblical Abraham and long before Greek mythology and the bronze age.  Trypillian people lived in the land of Ukraine at the same time as the Egyptian pyramids were built  and when Mesopotamia was born wth its temples and kings.
on the fields near the city of Trypillia, 40 kilometers south of Kiev.  Vikentiy Xvoika, was looking for something else when he made the discovery of an ancient civilization.  In his first published information, in the historical magazine 'Kieve's Ancestry', in 1899, he said,  "This newly discovered culture belonged to the end of the Stone Age and the beginning of the Metal Age.  On the pads of fired clay, a large number of whole and broken pieces of various forms were found.  They were covered with original relif ornaments.  Also, we found very interesting figures of people and animals, flint and polished rock tools.  Works made from pure copper were unearthed.  Some of the artifacts appear to be similar in appearance to works from Cyprus and Phonecia."
river Dunai.  One theory of the origin of the Trypillians tells us that they came from the area around the river Dunai.   This was during the time the glaciers receded from the area of Ukraine, leaving a six-foot thick layer of rich top soil.  Evidence from the digs show that the Trylillians, planted various grains and raised domesstic animals such as cattle, sheep and pigs.
structure.  The other great cultures of this time period and following periods used slavery as part of their structure.  The Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and others built civilizations using labor of subjugated peoples.  The Trypillians, however, were a 'matriarchal society', that worshipped "mother earth", and had little interest in power struggles concerning politics, taxes, money and ruling.  Because they took time for artistic and aesthetic beauty, scientists feel they had enough food and time to spend on higher pursuits, such as beauty and art.
time of bloom (peak), and later (decling).  More information is constantly being discovered, but many questions concerning the Trypillian culture remain to be answered.  Among them are, why, in the many rich diggings, can no human bones be found?  How did the Trypillians disappear?  Why did scientists find their houses relatively intact, covered with earth, unbroken vases and statues still in their places?  Were the Trypillians attacked by aggressive tribes?  Did a plague strike and wipe out so many people that they could no longer survive?  Many questions remain, and hopefully many answers will come with future exploration and study.  In the mean time, Ukrainians of today are deeply interested in the Trypillains, and are proud of the ancient people who once thrived on the steppes.
